Get Out: Weekend Events in and around Inver Grove Heights

  • Cascade Bay’s Labor Day Weekend Extended Season
    When/Where?
    Open daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 5, Cascade Bay, 1360 Civic Center Dr. in Eagan.
    Why Go?
    Have fun wrapping up summer at this awesome waterpark during Cascade Bay’s extended season, which runs through Labor Day.
    Price:
    $8 for guests over 42 inches tall, $6 for guests under 42 inches tall, $6 for seniors 62 years of age and older, and free admission for guests 18 months of age and younger (as of Sept. 5, 2011).
  • Work and Harvest Weekend
    When/Where?
    10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3; Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, at Sibley House Historic Site at Historic Fort Snelling.
    Why Go?
      This Labor Day weekend, see what kinds of work Minnesotans did at the 19th-century outposts by visiting Historic Fort Snelling and the Sibley House. Aside from regular programming, this special event offers demonstrations, activities for kids, and hands-on experiences. A free shuttle will be available between each site, courtesy of the Friends of the Sibley House.
    Price:
    Admission includes entrance to both Historic Fort Snelling and Sibley House: $14 for adults, $11 for seniors and college students and $8 for children ages 6-17. Admission is $5 for all MHS members.
  • Locker Loot
    When/Where?
    10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 2, at the South St. Paul Public Library.
    Why Go?
    Tweens and Teens, ages 10 to 18, are invited to drop in at the library to make accessories for their lockers for the new school year. From frames to memo boards, the library’s got all the supplies needed to help them head back to school with style. No sign-up necessary.

  • History on the Spot: Minnesota State Fair History Tour
    When/Where?
    6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, through Mon. Sept. 5, at the Minnesota State Fair.
    Why Go?
    If you’ve ever wondered why there is a four-leaf clover over the 4-H building entrance, or how Crop Art is made, or why the state fair mascot is named Fairchild, this is for you. The History on the Spot: Minnesota State Fair History Tour is a fun, easy-to-use cell phone tour that is a great way to learn all about State Fair history. Tim Russell from "A Prairie Home Companion" takes you on a historical tour of 12 unique sites at the Minnesota State Fair. This cell phone tour can be combined with the History Walking Tour brochure, which you can pick up at an information booth—and when you finish the walking tour, you can turn in your brochure for a free prize.
